Baby quilt

I am getting ready to leave for the UK, Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. I will be gone until August 26. After the show Laura and I are traveling down to London for a few days to look at museums etc.. If anyone has any suggestions of things we should do while in London please email me frieda@friestyle.com and let me know. I will be checking my email everyday, no computer though. I haven’t been to London in about 15 years and I’m sure there are new interesting things to see and visit.

BUT I am getting ready to go to a baby shower this afternoon. A good friend’s son and new wife are having their first baby. I made them this little crib quilt out of  two different sets of my 5” precut squares for a baby gift.  I didn’t know what sex it was while putting the squares together but found out later that it is a boy, so I put blue binding on the finished quilt.

This morning I needed to make a card to go with the gift. I pulled open my drawer of pre-fused fabrics and started creating. As you may know I love trees and all the metaphorsIMG_0471

that go with them, and this is what I came up with. I fused it right to colored card stock I get at Target. They come with matching envelopes. Since I am not so cleaver when it comes to wording I went on line to find an appropriate quote to go with my picture. And I found this-

To Baby Garber, ( I added this)

Soak up the sun
Affirm life's magic
Be graceful in the wind
Stand tall after a storm
Feel refreshed after it rains
Grow strong without notice
Be prepared for each season
Provide shelter to strangers
Hang tough through a cold spell
Emerge renewed at the first signs of spring
Stay deeply rooted while reaching for the sky
Be still long enough to
hear your own leaves rustling.

I think this is perfect since I am also giving the baby a copy of the Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I printed it out on fun paper because my hand writing is nothing special and cut the edge with my favorite deckle pinking blade and glued it to the back of the card.

I always think gifts made with love are the best.
