Playing inside

With this terrible heat driving me inside, I am working on a few small quilts. My basement is cool and comfortable, if a bit messy.

I really wish I had a magic genie to come in every night and straighten up my workspace, just the way I like it.

I will never be that really neat person, sigh.

Anyway, I wanted to share with you one of the ways that I add quilting lines on my work if I need to follow a line while I am quilting something.

Often I like to have a drawn line to follow when doing something like these flowers. If I don’t have the line to follow the line will become to straight and un-natural looking and so it helps if I can mark the curves. I discovered these colored pencils several years ago and now use them when doing this kind of quilting on my pieces.

I also discovered just recently that these lines can become permanent. I will share that next time.
Using Derwent Pencils to mark quilting lines
Don’t forget that next week is a free give away on my blog for Jane Sassaman’s new book.

Happy Quilting.

The heat has driven me indoors! I, also, will never be the "neat quilter" but there are times I just need to start fresh. Was wondering if you have ever done any quilts fusing structures...houses, etc? Thanks for the chance on the book!

I have a 12 set of those, I never thought about using them this way. Thanks!

I have used all kinds of color pencils, including the Derwent, although I never thought to use them for the quilting lines. I have used them to make fabric postcards as a sort of faux applique. They are pretty when they get wet and have that water color look too.
P.S. whis you would remove the word verification for making comments because the letters are getting harder to read and if I can't read them after one try, I give up making a comment at all. You would get more comments without it.

I love my set of 24 Derwent Inktense pencils! I add a clear (no color) aloe gel that I get from Walgreens really cheaply with it to paint with them. I'm looking forward to the next video with them!

How did you know? I just bought a set of these pencils to use on quilts and now I know one more way to use them on the quilts. ;)
