Prepare to sew

My friend Caryl Hancock from Indiana sent this around and I thought it was so great. Perhaps you have seen it before.

THE MENTAL APPROACH TO SEWING
This came from a 1949 Singer Sewing Manual. I trust all of you are mentally
prepared each time you sit down to sew!
"Prepare yourself mentally for sewing. Think about what you are going to
do...never approach sewing with a sigh or lackadaisically. Good results are
difficult when indifference predominates
.
Never try to sew with a sink full
of dishes or beds unmade. When there are urgent housekeeping chores, do
these first so your mind is free to enjoy your sewing.
"When you sew, make yourself as attractive as possible. Put on a clean
dress. Keep a little bag full of French chalk near your sewing machine to
dust your fingers at intervals. Have your hair in order, powder and
lipstick put on with care ... if you are constantly fearful that a visitor will drop
in or your husband will come home and you will not look neatly put
together, you will not enjoy your sewing as you should." OMG

It is however true that a good mental attitude will make you happier as you work. I always try to listen to uplifting music while I am creating something new. It makes me calm and clear, if that is at all possible. :)

Have a great day sewing.

Too Funny!!!! Says this woman who is sewing at noon still un-showered and wearing pajamas!

This is great. Not like we have to follow it to a T. But you do want to have your mind uncluttered so that the concentration can be on the sewing and not on what's next.
Also any women neatly dressed and clean always feels better about themself, even if it's neat and clean in old clothing.

Too cute. Shows how things have changed over the years.
However - - - much of the thought behind this article does still hold true today.
Things change
things stay the same

Hugs,
Gerry

Love this! I agree that your mental attitude is important, but lipstick? I'd never get any sewing done at all ....

Funny! Sadly I would never get any sewing done if I had to have my house and myself in order before I started!

Priceless...from the person who loves to still be in pj's in the afternoon because I've been productive at the machine!
