I thought I would post some of the quilts at the show that caught my attention. Remember there is no rhythm or reason why I like a quilt, I just do. Enjoy.

I really enjoyed the class in Birmingham, came home and immediately finished the quilt, which I'm very pleased with. Hope you enjoyed your trip and had a good journey home.
Best wishes,

The Quilt Show

I have recently been in Boulder CO, filming for the Quilting Show with Ricky Timms and Alex Anderson. What a fun and relaxed set they run. I had a fun time filming my episode with them, which will air in the spring. I will let you know the dates as it approaches, but here are a few pictures to entice you to watch.

Terri Hancock Mangat filmed the day before I did, here she is on the set with Alex.

They have a live audience for the show, that is really nice.

If any of you go to Ricky’s booth at any of the shows you know Justin. Here he is warming up the crowd before Alex interviews the senior editor of Better Homes and Garden’s Quilts and More, Jennifer Keltner standing in the back with Alex.

Summer Rain

In the current issue of Fons and Porter is this wonderful seasonal quilt called “Summer Rain”

I know you will enjoy making this quilt. It was inspired by the car trip taken every spring down highway 57 from Chicago to Paducah. As you leave the Chicago area it is still cool and only the daffodils and tulips have bloomed, but as you head south on the highway everything begins to turn really green and the Red Bud trees are blooming. It is truly an amazing ride that breaths hope and happiness in your soul.

I have just returned from a beautiful fall week end in Lansing MI at the Michigan Showcase Quilt show. My students were fabulous and very willing to take risks and step outside their box. Here are a few close ups from my “Small Autumn Mums” class.IMG_2991

Another girl in the family

I am blessed with “my three sons”. I have always loved having so many boys, BUT girls are nice too. This past February a girl, my new daughter in law Megan, was added to the mix of our very testosterone family and I love her so, and now another girl is added. Zachary and Amelia have decided to tie the knot, don’t know when yet, but as a family we are thrilled, and as a mother I could not ask for a nicer person to share my son’s life. Welcome to the family Amelia!

Laughing Leaves

I have been teaching a class called “Laughing Leaves” for awhile now. It is a great design class, all about letting go and being free. I will be teaching it again in Lansing, MI at the Michigan Quilt Showcase. If you are in the area you should come by and see what we will be making. So much of the inspiration for me for this class comes from all the photos I take all the time. Here are just a fraction of some the photos on my computer for inspiration, and some student work. I hope you enjoy. I will also be teaching this at the also at Quilt Fest of Jacksonville later this month in Jacksonville, FL. Be sure and stop in there and say hi too.

Projects at Quilting Adventures

I had such an uplifting experience at Quilting Adventures. There were 18 students who worked really hard and did a wonderful job of coming out of their “comfort” boxes. I already posted the first days project, but here they area again with the second days work. They started out using two 1/2 yards of my hand dyed fabrics in two different color ways, bright and blackened. From these they created variations of my design called “Dancing Tree”. On the second day they had to start with an idea or picture and begin to build their own design. For some of the gals this was a giant leap and I was so pleased and proud of the way they just jumped right in. No whining in this class! Here are their two projects pictured together.

Barbara and Alice do a fantastic job of putting together a retreat, and if you ever have the opportunity to go to one of the Quilting Adventure programs you will love it. Stop by their booth in Houston to see what they are offering in the spring. Thanks guys for a great three days!!
