New Mexico

I just returned from a wonderful visit to New Mexico. This was my first trip to this stark and sky filled landscape. I found it haunting and full of wonder. I was able to travel a bit after my teaching experience there. The guilds in Albuquerque and Santa Fe were delightful and I stayed with some lovely people. I say this all the time, but quilters are the same around the world. I am always amazed by that fact. I have found them to be generous and sharing people.

I rented a car and drove from Santa Fe up to Pecos National Monument. I arrived early and was able to walk the ruined pueblo and climb down into a reconstructed Kiva that is there. IMG_2171 IMG_2180 IMG_2182 IMG_2186

Don’t you think you would. It gets hot early, “but it is a DRY heat”. Hot is hot.

Then I drove back through Santa Fe and around to Bandelier National Monument where there are still cliff dwellings to climb into. I loved this place and found it peaceful and inviting. I could image myself as a native living and working here.

I am however glad to be back home in the mid-west where I belong. I am not sure I will ever be able to live any where else. I do love the lush green, even with the humidity. I love the green trees and harmless wildlife.
